We all know waterproof clothes are quite durable, but if not washed properly, their waterproof performance becomes questionable. Therefore, there are tricks to water-repellent treatment for clothes.
Don't worry, I will teach you three tricks to ensure your waterproof clothes are washed quickly and cleanly, without damaging the waterproof layer, and still look sharp and wrinkle-free!
This waterproof breather membrane is usually applied by special spraying or coating techniques on the surface of the clothes. It allows water droplets to roll off like small balls instead of soaking into the fabric. Therefore, when washing such clothes, you shouldn't use strong rubbing or high-temperature drying methods, as this type of water-repellent treatment is incorrect, otherwise the waterproof breather membrane will be ruined.
Choose the right detergent
We should use a mild, chemical-free detergent, preferably one specifically designed for outdoor water-repellent treatment gear. This type of detergent won't corrode the waterproof breather membrane and can clean stains on the clothes. Remember, use a moderate amount, not too much, otherwise, it will be troublesome to rinse.
Proper washing
Waterproof clothes should ideally be hand-washed, soaked in warm water, gently rubbed, and heavily soiled areas can be lightly brushed with a soft brush. Avoid vigorous scrubbing and do not dry clean, as those chemical solvents are the enemies of the waterproof breather membrane. After washing, rinse with clean water until there is no foam.
Drying and storage
After washing, don't rush to wring out the clothes, let them drip dry naturally, or use a clean towel to gently press out excess water. Then find a ventilated place to lay the clothes flat to dry. Never use a dryer, as high temperatures can destroy the waterproof breather membrane. After drying, remember to store in a dry and ventilated place and avoid folding to prevent wrinkles.
Follow these three points, and your waterproof clothes will have excellent water-repellent treatment!
First, the most important point, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Prolonged UV exposure accelerates the aging of the waterproof breather membrane, reducing its waterproof performance. The best way is to dry in a cool, ventilated place.
Second, try not to fold during storage. Folding leaves creases on the fabric, and over time, the waterproof performance at these creases may reduce. It's better to hang the clothes on a hanger or gently roll them up and store them in a wardrobe.
Also, regular cleaning and re-waterproofing (i.e., reapplying waterproof treatment) are essential. Even if you are careful, dust and stains will still accumulate on the clothes. Regular cleaning keeps the clothes clean and maintains the waterproof breather membrane's condition. Re-waterproofing means using special waterproof sprays or agents to "recharge" the waterproof breather membrane after cleaning and drying.
Lastly, avoid contact with sharp objects. This way, your waterproof clothes can stay in optimal condition and continue to accompany you on more journeys and adventures.
